Decorating Ideas for Coffee Tables

Decorating Ideas for Coffee Tables
Decorating Ideas for Coffee Tables

There are certain things you should keep in mind when decorating your coffee tables. A lot of you may assume that you should keep a tall centerpiece or a vase at the center of your coffee table. As beautiful as these look, a coffee table is one of the places where people gather round for conversation. Do not make the centerpiece so high that the conversation is disturbed. This is perhaps one of the most important tips on decorating coffee tables. With this in mind, here are some great coffee table decorating ideas you can indulge in.

If you have a rectangular coffee table, simply have a runner running along the length of the table, at the center. For character, choose a runner with a beautiful print based on your choice. Apart from looking beautiful on its own, a runner adds a lot of character to the room and some much-needed color too.
At the center of the table place some gorgeous tea-lite holders and light them up with candles every evening. This is particularly great if you have a glass coffee table so that the light reflects on it and makes the table look absolutely perfect.

Since we don't usually need a full pot of coffee except on weekends -- I typically just grab a Starbucks "Via" instant coffee on the way to work in the morning (a pretty remarkable innovation, by the way) -- I was attracted to the hot water dispenser on this coffee maker. I like it particularly because of its 58-ounce capacity -- meaning that you don't have to keep refilling it if you're just using it once each morning to fill a car mug. My wife prefers tea to coffee, and she loves being able to get a cup of really hot water whenever she likes. (We fill it with spring water, and the results are superb.) I haven't had any problem with the "add water" light, as another reviewer apparently did. I was concerned about squandering energy by keeping a reservoir of water constantly hot, but it doesn't. It keeps only about 13 ounces of water at serving temperature; the rest of the reservoir is unheated. It doesn't take all that much energy to keep 13 ounces of water hot. And if you know you won't be wanting hot water for a while, you can just turn it off with the on/off button. I had expected it to heat water instantly through some kind of coil system -- much like an under-sink unit does -- but not so. As a result, if the unit hasn't been on, there's about a 3-minute wait for the water to reach the right temperature. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I wish the hot water

How to Make a Cappuccino Coffee - With an Espresso Machine

How to Make a Cappuccino Coffee - With an Espresso Machine
How to Make a Cappuccino Coffee - With an Espresso Machine

Ingredients
1 coffee cup of water
2-3 level tbsp. freshly ground coffee beans for espresso
2 coffee cups of milk
1 tsp. of sugar
Chocolate powder, ground cinnamon or nutmeg
How to Make

To make your perfect cup of cappuccino, chill the metal pitcher. This allows the coffee to foam up better. Fill the pitcher with a cup of fresh thick milk and place a food thermometer inside the pitcher. Place the steam wand diagonally just below the milk's surface for a better froth. The angling of the steam wand is important for the majority of the milk to froth up. Steam it to 150 degree Fahrenheit. Add the sugar, sweetener, or flavors as desired for the cappuccino. You can add delicious flavors like vanilla, Irish cream, and hazelnut.

Just before pulling the espresso shots, pour steamed milk into the desired mug after scooping out the froth. Load the espresso ground beans into the portafilter handle, and tamp level before inserting into the espresso machine. Pulling the perfect espresso shot is quite an art. A perfect shot is attained at around 18 to 23 seconds. After pulling the shots, pour it into the coffee mug and add the steamed milk till it is more than half full. Add the scooped froth on top above the rim of the mug, sprinkle it with some lovely chocolate powder and your delicious coffee is ready to be sipped and enjoyed.

Sprinkle up the chocolate powder on top.

Turkish Coffee:

Made by boiling finely ground coffee and water together to form a muddy, thick coffee mix. In fact, the strongest Turkish coffee can almost keep a spoon standing upright. It’s often made in what’s known as an Ibrik, a long-handled, open, brass or copper pot. It is then poured, unfiltered, into tiny Demitasse cups, with the fine grounds included. Some of the health risks associated with drinking large amounts of coffee can be attributed to the chemical and pesticide residues as opposed to the coffee beans or the brew itself. Organic coffee reduces these risks because of the lack or reduction in synthetic additives used in organic coffee plantations. Shade grown coffee ensures the preservation of nutrients that naturally occur, by reducing sun exposure that bleaches important compounds in the top soil. The following are the main organic coffee benefits:

  • High in antioxidants, vitamins and mineral content

how to Make Perfect French Press Coffee

how to Make Perfect French Press Coffee

Before you make your first cup of French press coffee, if you like, we have an article on French press coffee maker reviews that you can read on. As for the steps to make the best French press coffee, here they are. Just follow the tips, along with the technical steps on how to use a French press (the actual process of making a French press coffee), all the way to the end.

Step #1: Find the Pot
Purchasing the right French press pot is not difficult. Just go to your nearest Starbucks or any other specialty coffee shop to get one. Plus, every time you make a new pot of coffee, you will have to wash the press thoroughly. As coffee has oils in them, the reason behind what makes each cup delicious, it can cling to the press and ruin the taste if not washed properly. That's the first step in knowing how to make French press coffee.

Step #2: Grind Coffee Beans
The secret to unbelievably delicious coffee is grinding the coffee beans every time. Make sure you set the grinder at 'coarse'. The texture of your coffee should be a bit more coarse than regular drip coffee. This way, when you filter the coffee, you are left with nothing but tasty coffee. You will add about 1 tablespoon of coffee for every 4 oz of water you use. If you wish to make the taste more strong or weak, adjust accordingly.

Step #3: Boil Water
In a pot, you will have to boil water till the bubbles come on top. Make sure the water is around 195º F before you use it. This is the perfect temperature for any method used to brew coffee.

Step #4: Ready the French Press
Once you have the ground coffee and the water is ready, add the ground coffee in the bottom of the press first. Then, add hot water inside the press and place the cover over it properly. Wait till the coffee has time to steep in the water; approximately 1 minute. Once it's ready, remove the lid, use the non-metal spoon, and stir everything inside the press. Again wait for about 2 minutes before you press the plunger. Right now, you should be getting the intoxicating scent of your fresh coffee steeping inside the press.

Step #5: Press the Plunger
As the final step of how to make French press coffee, very, very slowly and with even pressure, push the plunger downwards. This will take the coffee grounds to the bottom of the press and leave you with your delicious coffee above. And that's it, all you have to do now is pour yourself a hot cup of coffee.

what is History of Coffee

what is History of Coffee

History of Coffee:
There are lots of myths and legends when it comes to the history of coffee. Many thought the cup of coffee to be very mysterious and this stimulating coffee found itself shrouded in mystery in the earlier days. One of the most popular legends is associated with a goatherd named Kaldi. One day, when Kaldi was with his herd of goats he noticed a sudden change in their behavior. The goats turned spirited and that was made Kaldi hunt for the probable reason. That was the time he viewed a wild coffee shrub and it dawned on him that his goats probably had eaten some cherries off this shrub. Curious, it led him to have a taste of the wild cherries himself. Upon feeling energized, he spread the story of these wild cherries in his village. From the local monastery, the tale spread between the monks and even the locals.

The monks found it very useful as it helped them to stay awake for their ceremonies that went through the night. The Arabs were considered to be the first to cultivate coffee. They even began the trade. The first coffee plants are said to have come from the shores of the Red Sea. Coffee beans were actually considered to be a food in the olden days. The cherries were minced together and then mixed into the rest of the food. It was only in the 11th century that coffee first saw itself being developed into a hot drink.

The Venetian merchants imported coffee to Europe and by the 17th century, coffee had made its way not only to Europe, but was gaining popularity across the continent. Initially condemned due to religious reasons, one saw major controversies erupt around this dark beverage. Despite the facts that surrounded it, the mid 17th century saw a number of coffee houses cropping up all over the town. A lot of people gathered here to discuss business and to gossip in general.

The Arabs were very possessive about the growing popularity of coffee and its spread around the world. The beans were dispatched from the Yemen province of Arabia and were kept a highly guarded secret. It was later thought, that it was either the Dutch or a group of Pilgrims who finally tried to smuggle the plants to India. After a few attempts, coffee finally took root in India. The cultivation then expanded to the islands of Java and Sumatra.

The Dutch brought coffee to France in 1715. Louis XIV of France was presented with a coffee plant and it was then planted in the Royal Botanical Garden. Also known as the Noble Tree, it had the French really hooked on to coffee and the crops really flourished with the plantation of the Noble Tree.

This tree saw itself have roots in various other parts of the world. Francisco de Mello Palheta is known to have brought the coffee into Brazil. He was sent to obtain coffee beans from the French Guinea. The French were known to guard this fiercely and Francisco de Mello Palheta would have actually been unsuccessful, had he not to have a very appealing personality. This resulted in the Governor's wife presenting him with a huge bouquet of flowers. It was only much later; he made the discovery of the coffee seeds buried deep inside it!

The history of coffee has seen so many travelers, pilgrims and traders go on long voyages carrying these precious coffee seeds all over the world. New plantations meant more business and slowly, coffee plantations and its export, turned into a very profitable industry from the olden days till date.

Many innovations that go into the making of this beverage have seen the coffee really metamorphose over time. So the next time you sip your perfectly blended cup of coffee in a very swanky coffee shop, I hope this captivating history of coffee would linger on in your minds, for a long time to come.

How to Make Arabic Coffee

 How to Make Arabic Coffee

The coffee beans and the process of brewing Arabic coffee is not very different from what we ordinarily do to make a cup of coffee. The last spices and herbs that are added to the brew is what gives the coffee its distinct taste and characteristics. The process that is used to make Arabic coffee is quite simple and straight forward. Here's how you can make it...

Arabic Coffee Ingredients
To make a cup of Arabic coffee, you will require the following ingredients:
3 eight ounce glasses of water
¾ cup lightly roasted and ground coffee
¼ cup coarsely ground cardamom
¼ teaspoon saffron (optional)
Arab coffee cup (optional)
Apart from these ingredients you may include some milk or milk powder, in case you hate just plain watery coffee.

Arabic Coffee Recipe
The process is short and straightforward. First take a vessel and bring the water to boil. Add the coffee powder to it and let the brew, boil for about quarter of an hour. Then turn off the heat and put the cardamom in the pot and stir the brew so that the aroma gets whiffed into the coffee. Strain the coffee into a cup and sprinkle the saffron into it.

There are several alternative recipes of Arabic and Turkish coffee that can be implemented, if you are enthusiastic enough and can lay your hands upon the ingredients. You can prepare the Qishr, a Yemeni quasi-coffee, often known as the poor man's coffee. The recipe is the same as above, but instead of coffee powder, add in coffee husks, ginger and cinnamon. The taste is a bit different from that of coffee, but as always, is wonderful. A very strong and rather awakening variant of the conventional coffee is the Turkish coffee. In order to make such a coffee, you will have to lay your hands upon roast coffee beans. Use them in the aforementioned recipe with cinnamon and boil the brew till it thickens a bit. Serve with the essence of cinnamon.

Coffee was a delicacy that was widely enjoyed in the Ottoman empire, hence you will find several Arabic coffee variants ranging from Balkan recipes to the ones that were enjoyed by the Afghans. Every recipe has the same base but the essence giving herb is different. Well believe it or not, the countless recipes of Arabic coffee have made Ottoman empire a probable birth place of coffee shops or houses. You may also experiment with some brands of middle eastern and African coffee beans, the taste really does change.

Two Methods For Making Coffee

Coffee is among the world's top consumed goods, with American consumption being so high that they consume 1/3 as much coffee as they do water. With the worldwide popularity of this drink being as high as it is, it can be difficult to keep up with all of the varied ways in which different cultures make their coffee. In this article we will take a look at some of the ways in which coffee is made around the world that the average coffee drinker may not be aware of.

The French Press – This method of making coffee involves the use of a French press, also known as a coffee plunger or сafetière à piston and works much like a tea infuser. In this method the coffee and water are mixed together in the top section of the device and left to brew for several minutes. A plunger, also known as the press, is then depressed which compresses the grounds and forces the liquid into the chamber below while the grounds remain in the top section. Many believe that this forceful pressing allows more flavor and essential oils to escape the bean, resulting in a higher quality of coffee.

Turkish Coffee – Turkish coffee begins with the coffee being ground down to as fine a powder as possible. This can be done via the traditional method with a mortar and pestle, with a Turkish hand grinder or with a more modern electronic device. Once made into a powder the coffee is placed inside a small Turkish coffee pot known as an ibrik. At this point ingredients such as sugar and cardamom may be added depending on personal preference. The coffee must be brought to a slow boil, and then removed from the heat. Once cooled, the coffee is then placed back on the heat until a foam forms at the top of the ibrik. At this point the coffee is ready to be poured into a cup, where it must settle for a couple of minutes before it can be drunk. This settling period results in the collecting of grounds at the bottom of the cup. Several cultures, including Turkish and Greek, read these settled coffee grounds for the purposes of telling fortunes and predicting future events, revealing the rich history and culture of the Turkish coffee making method.

How to Make Coffee Jello

Looking for an after dinner dessert for when you have friends over? Do they love coffee?

Try coffee jello. It's quick and very simple to make. It only takes about fifteen minutes to put together and most of that time is waiting for it to thicken. It also doesn't require heating oven up, so it's perfect for the summer, but you can enjoy it year round.

What you'll need:

Two 1/4 ounces of plain gelatin. It's in the grocery aisle with the jello, probably in a plain looking box.

A 1/2 cup of cold coffee. I used a flavored coffee, but really you can use any coffee that you like.

3 cups of hot coffee.

A 1/2 cup of sugar. More or less depending on how sweet you like it.

1 pinch of salt

How to make it:

In a large bowl or I used a small, narrow roasting pan, mix the gelatin and iced coffee.

Let it set for ten minutes for it to thicken.

Add the hot coffee, sugar and salt. Stir it until sugar is completely dissolved.

You can pour it into individual serving dishes or keep it in the roasting pan. Put it in the refrigerator until it sets. I noticed that it took sightly longer than normal jello to set. In my refrigerator, it took about three hours, so if you can make before you start cooking your dinner and by the time you're done eating dinner, it'll be ready!

And that's it. When you serve it, you add whipped cream. I also recommend trying it with chocolate or caramel syrup. Also, you can try adding bananas, strawberries, raspberries or anything else you'd like.

What You Need to Make Coffee at Home

The typical coffee drinker out there may not even be aware of what accessories available to make the brewing process a simpler and enjoyable task. The fact is that a lot of people never actually make the coffee themselves. In lieu of brewing a pot of coffee at home they elect to hit the drive through window or the local gas station on the way to work. There is, however, another group of people that choose to make coffee for themselves at home. Not only does this help them save money, but it also allows them to make the coffee to their exact specifications. Being able to add your own sugar and cream is a big deal if you are serious about coffee. Another thing that is a big deal is all the accessories that you need when you are in the process of making coffee at home.

Well, the first thing that you are going to need in addition to a home brewing system is filters. Every coffee machine in the world requires the use of filters if you are making a pot. If you have a single serve coffee maker, however, you may not need filters to make your cup. These filters are fairly cheap and can be purchased at just about any store that you walk into. The nice thing is that they can be purchased in bulk. Since you use at least one a day it is important to have a good supply of them on hand. If you run out of filters you will be unable to continue with the brewing process.

Another accessory that gets overlooked is the fact that you are going to need coffee mugs at the home. The people that get their coffee on the go may never take the time to think about the fact that in order to make, and drink, coffee at home you have to have mugs. The good news is that coffee mugs are a very common item. You can literally buy them for a few dollars or at any local store in your neighborhood.

The last thing that you are going to need is sugar and cream. If you make coffee at home it will not be done until you have added these two elements. Making coffee at home will allow you to put just enough sugar and cream in your cup so that you can get it exactly how you want it.

Shop for coffee online to save a lot of money.

New Ways to Make Coffee

If you are anything like most people, then you likely love coffee. Coffee lovers can't go more than a day, sometimes even a few hours, without wanting a cup and badly. Making your favorite in a coffee maker may get the job done, but there are definitely other ways to go about getting your favorite cup.

The Siphon/Vacuum brewer

One of the more interesting methods that you can try is the siphon/vacuum brewer, which is also referred to as the vacuum coffee maker. This novel way of making coffee isn't new in and of itself. The process was developed in the 1830s. Part of the fun and charm of a siphon/vacuum is that the process is very novel. Water vapor pressure forces water into a chamber containing the ground beans. The result is a mechanism and process that may look a little bit like a turn of the century science project, but the vacuum coffee maker definitely produces great coffee and makes for a wonderful conversation piece.

Chermex

A Chemex coffee maker is another novel way to make coffee. The Chemex design is based around the concept of the hourglass and may resemble a work of art more than a means for making coffee. As it is made of glass and often a wood collar, the Chemex has no working parts. This fact adds to its overall uniqueness.

The key part of the Chemex method is that it uses a very robust, chemistry grade filtering system that filters out a higher level of impurities than other filtering systems. Many believe that the end result is coffee that tastes much purer and better.

The method for making coffee with a Chemex coffee maker is actually fairly simple. One simply places the heavy-duty filter over the top of the Chemex in a cone shape. The next step is to pour your desired amount of coffee into the filter and then simply pour your hot water in afterwards. It might sound too simple to work. However, not only does it work, it works extremely well.

Part of the joy of owning a Chemex coffee maker is the novelty and "wow factor" that you can produce in those who are unfamiliar with its design. The Chemex's design has long been recognized as being something of a work of art. Because of its looks as well as its unique functionality, there is no doubt that the Chemex is a rather unique and way to make coffee.

The Toddy

The Toddy is often employed in making iced coffee. The way that a Toddy coffee maker works is rather unique in that one literally soaks the coffee for several hours in the Toddy system. One of the byproducts is that the coffee will keep for several days, for this reason, the Toddy coffee maker is often a favorite of coffee shops and other establishments that serve iced coffee beverages. If you really enjoy iced coffee, this might be yet another method to try.

How to Make Coffee Drinks

You will be surprised at how easy it is to make coffee drinks like the ones you can order from the popular coffee houses. As long as you have the proper equipment, and it needn't be fancy, you can enjoy the pleasures of good coffee anytime.

It's a cinch to grasp the basics of various popular coffee drinks. Practice, of course, will make perfect. So invite your friends over and impress them with names of coffee drinks like:

Espresso
Cappuccino
French vanilla cappuccino
and Americano coffee

It's fun to make simple specialty drinks with coffee that are beyond the standard cup of java. And just beyond needing the proper equipment, here are some basic coffee drink recipes to get you started.

How to make espresso drinks

Freshly ground espresso beans are needed for a really good shot of espresso. If you don't have access to a conical burr grinder (most important!) have your local coffee house grind the espresso beans for you. You will want a very fine grind with good quality espresso beans.

A quick rundown on the espresso shot itself so you have an idea of what you are after:

The crema is the thin, sweet layer on top of the espresso shot pulled correctly. The crema will skim the top of your shot and you will notice that it's a bit lighter in color. It's important to obtain a good crema.

The body is the center of the shot, just under the crema. This is where your flavor is most intense. With a perfect pull of espresso, the body will be a rich, warm brown. At the bottom you will notice the heart. This is more concentrated; it is the bitter balance to the crema's sweetness. And it should be a deeper, rich brown color.

Here are the basics of "pulling espresso shots":

1. The finished espresso taste begins with the quality of water you use. Filtered water is the best choice. Many people think the coffee will flavor poor water, it's just the opposite... the water that will flavor your coffee. So, use the best available water. One shot will require 1.25 oz of filtered water.

2. Measure out your grounds. 2 Tablespoons of grounds will accommodate 1 one-ounce shots. Add the grounds to the portafilter, they will appear to be too much, but the next step of tamping will take care of that.

3. You'll need to tamp down the grounds in the portafilter tightly after putting in the measured grounds. Tamping will compact the grounds so that the water will absorb all the true flavor of the bean. Be sure to wipe off your portafilter before you secure it on the espresso maker.

Note: If your first shots come out too fast, tamp down your coffee grounds a bit harder next time; if too slowly, you'll need to tamp lighter.

4. Pull and time your shot. 1 one-ounce shots of espresso should take approximately 24 seconds.

The result of pulling your espresso shot too quickly will be an undrinkable thin liquid. And too long a pull will cause a bitter taste in your espresso shot.

You know you have made a quality espresso shot when the liquid oozes out like warm honey. Timing is everything, it's better to adjust your pulling time before you think about adjusting your tamping or amount of grounds that you use.

How to make a perfect cappuccino

1. Begin by preparing the espresso shot for your cappuccino, first, as outlined above.

2. Next, using cold skim milk in a stainless cream pitcher, place the steam nozzle at the bottom of the milk pitcher. Slowly bring the nozzle up towards the top as the milk begins to frothe.

Avoid "stirring" the nozzle. Your movements should be slow and relaxed, frothing from the bottom to the top.

3. Add approximately 2 oz of the steamed skim milk to your cup, top with the espresso shot, and then gently spoon more of the foamed milk on the top.

Coffee Drink Recipe for Americano coffee

An Americano is the macho of all espresso drinks. It's really simple to make an Americano coffee.

1. Have black dripped coffee on hand, and pour a cup.
2. First, you'll pull an espresso shot.
3. Next, add your shot to a the cup of dripped black coffee.

Wasn't that easy?

The more coffee drinks you make, the better and more proficient you will become. Start with these few basic coffee recipes for the 3 most popular coffee drinks. Your friends will be so impressed!

How To Make Coffee In 3 Easy Steps

Essential Guide on How to Make Coffee

Whether you're a connoisseur or just enjoy the odd cup, it's vital that you learn how to make coffee the right way. An excellent cup of coffee is like a gourmet meal - the smell, sight and taste come together to make something beautiful. But not every cup reaches this zenith of java greatness. It takes practice and quality ingredients (as well as a little patience).

What You Need For a Good Cup of Coffee

In simple terms, coffee is just a particular bean that has been brewed with hot water. But, your choice of both bean and water make a huge difference to the beverage's overall taste. Freshly ground coffee beans have the best flavor. If you buy pre-ground coffee, be sure to keep it in an airtight container to maintain freshness, and resit storing in in the refrigerator.

For the very best results, preparing only as much as you will need immediately, use a home coffee grinder to get that fresh ground taste. The water you choose to use should be cool, and generally free of any odd taste, especially chlorine.

Bottled or filtered water is best, but if tap water is all that you have, be sure to run the water for a few seconds to clear away the initial residue before you fill your pot. Don't use softened or distilled water.

Equipped with those two essential ingredients - water and ground coffee beans - you need a coffee maker to do the brewing for you. Percolators and drip coffee makers are the two most common methods, although the French press is gaining in popularity. Automatic drip coffee makers are probably your best bet as a beginner. With these handy drip machines you'll have a tasty cup of coffee in three simple steps.

3 Quick Steps To Make Drip Coffee

Step 1 - Fill the reservoir with the desired amount of water (generally anywhere from 4 to 12 cups).

Step 2 - With a permanent or paper filter in the filter basket, fill with coffee grounds at a rate of 1 to 2 tablespoons for every 6 oz of water - which is slightly less than one cup of water. (Make a note here - although permanent filters are convenient and better for the environment, they may leave more grounds in your coffee and produce a slightly different tasting beverage.)

Step 3 - After replacing the carafe under the now closed filter basket, turn the drip coffee maker on. Within a few minutes you'll have a pot of fresh coffee.

How to Use a Percolator In 4 Easy Steps

Slightly different than a drip maker, percolators look like a giant kettle and tend to be a little fussier to use than other styles of coffee brewers. The same two elements are used - water and coffee grounds - but there is no need for a separate filter, because the coffee percolator uses a filter basket in place of a paper filter.

Follow these simple steps to enjoy percolated coffee quickly.

Step 1 - Remove the top of the percolator and fill the pot with the desired amount of water. It's best to fill it all the way up.

Step 2 - Fill the filter basket with coarsely ground coffee, and place the included lid on the filter basket. Usually the percolator will have a chart stating how much coffee should be added, although it's generally similar to the 1-2 tbsp for every 6oz of water.

Step 3 - Place the filter basket, slipped onto the stem, into the percolator pot. And either plug it in, and turn it on if you are using an electric percolator, or place it over a medium heat source, if you are using a manual or stovetop percolator.

Step 4 - When the machine stops perking, unplug it, or remove it from the heat source. The coffee is nearly ready for drinking., just let it rest a few minutes before you pour your first cup.

Hint: Most percolators have a clear top where you can see the coffee perking in the pot. You will be able to tell when it's dark enough for you by watching the color of the finished coffee through this clear top piece. Usually, the coffee will be ready for you and finished perking in 5-8 minutes, depending upon how strong you like your coffee.

Experiment with how to make coffee with the easy basic steps, and try adding more ground coffee or less each time until you get it "just the way you like ". You might want to try different brands, flavors and styles, too.

You will soon find that there is a whole selection of different roasts available from across the globe. Be prepared to pick and choose, to wade through before finding that perfect combination of bean and method that suits your coffee fancies. Trust me, it's worth the effort.
